Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Through the lives of Saint Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati, we are inspired to strive for sainthood. In the normal, everyday moments, both of these saints show us that ‘becoming a saint is not just possible, it is here’ for us.
Carlo Acutis’ devotion to Jesus was striking and his joy was radiant as he battled cancer until his death at 15 years old. Pier Giorgio lived simply in his call to be Christ to others, and expressed this through his great love of the outdoors.
These men teach us that by leaning into our talents, current vocation, and involvements, we will find Jesus right where we are. Christ turns to us here and asks, “Do you want to be a saint?” As we grapple with this question, these saints ask us to turn our gaze upward to remind us that ‘it is worth it.’ They have run the race and continue to walk with us. To the heights we will go for Christ, for we can be saints too.
